As the image shows, bumble bees love Monkshood – unlike many other pollinators they are able to move deep inside the bloom to reach the plant’s nectar. RHS recommends ‘deep, cool, moisture-retentive soil’ for best results but our original planting (from Kilmurry in 2016) has thrived in spite of salt-laden gales and stony soil. It’s a really reliable bloomer from late summer on.
Caution: All parts of the plant are toxic, gloves recommended when handling.
