Originating in Chile, the Abutilon vitifolium does well here on the mild south coast as long as it is given shelter. Most guides claim it’s hardy down to -5C. As the vitifolium suffix suggests, the leaves are vine-like and attractive in their own right but it’s the large, saucer shaped flowers in mid summer that command attention.
