Spring has Sprung!

IMG 2909The Tantalus crew are back on the road again delivering cut flowers in Kinsale and Bandon.

Like most farmers, we’ve had enough of record-breaking rainfall for now – I’ve never seen the ground so sodden for so long.  There is an upside to the warmer temperatures and copious moisture though, and that is the accelerated growth spurt and early appearance of most of our flowers and shrubs.  Spare a thought for those who garden in more hostile environments: I was fortunate enough to visit the Botanical Gardens in Denver CO, USA last week where annual rainfall is 15 inches (or less) and intense wind and sun make gardening an endurance sport.

Meanwhile, the crew are getting ready for our first plant fair of the year at the lovely Fota House and Arboretum in Cork on Sunday April 14th.  We’ll have plenty of plants with us including some unusual varieties that we’ve been trialling over the past twelve months.  See https://fotahouse.com/event/annual-plant-craft-and-garden-fair/  for more details.  The organisers have added a craft fair to the event this year so there should be plenty to amuse the non-gardeners in your party while you decide on your purchases…

Just heard that Fota Plant Fair has been postponed until Sunday 21st of April because of the waterlogged grounds making parking impossible.

And to finish off here are some of the beauties flourishing in the polytunnel today April 10th
